So off to Fitness Ridge we travel... with a stop over in Las Vegas! Holly and I left Imperial Beach around 9:30AM, and filled up on gas near Miramar. We arrived in Las Vegas around 2:30 and checked into the Fremont Hotel and Casino.

The Fremont is a nice little old casino right in the middle of Fremont Street... right in the heart of the Fremont Experience. We wondered around Fremont St. for a while then asked the guy at the information booth what the best way to get to the rest of the casinos on the Las Vegas strip. He gave us some of the best advise about Las Vegas that I've heard. They now have a double decker bus called the "Deuce" that runs back and forth on the strip between Fremont St. and the transit station just south of the airport for $2 each way or $5 for an all day pass. So we got on the bus at 3:45PM for one of best ways to see Las Vegas.

We got the front seats upstairs and Holly went crazy with taking photos with her camera phone.

And I took a few with my camera as well...
The bus takes you to the transit station where you get off the bus, walk through the station, then get on the next "Deuce". Luckily we were able to get front seats upstairs once again. The bus driver on this trip had some hysterical comments. "Please use the crosswalk behind the bus. This is for your safety. If you cross in front of the bus, the oncoming cars can't see you. So don't cross in front of the bus unless you want to become a PERMANENT resident of Las Vegas." Also got some great shots of the neon lights on the strip on the way back to Fremont Street.

I will say that traffic sucks in Las Vegas. We didn't get back to Fremont Street until 6:45PM. A three hour bus trip mostly due to traffic.

For dinner we hit the Paradise Buffet inside the Fremont. Not the best buffet, but not quite the worst I've ever been to either. We missed the 7PM Fremont Experience show, but caught the 8PM space fight show and then the 9PM abstract music show. A short video can be seen at the end of this blog (on it's side, i don't know how to rotate the video...). Or there will be once I can figure out how to upload it...

Holly and I both got one of those 20 inch drinks and wandered around the Fremont experience. A lot of fun watching the people. From the bachelorette party with the devil's horns and the shirts saying "They are getting married..." on the front and "and I am getting drunk." on the back to the group of three guys where two guys barely able to walk were trying to carry their incapacitated drunk buddy home, this was some great people watching.

There was a really good sax player (and we all like good sax...) playing on one corner. On one end of the street waqs a metal ball where three motorcyclists were doing stunts spinning around inside the ball. Pretty impressive. We watched the 9:15 "stunt" show at the 3rd Ave intersection. The first guy was a "master of geometric shapes", which translated as a baton twirler who specialized in baton's modified into squares and cubes. Not very impressive.

The second act blew my mind though. This couple did a whole bunch of absolutely amazing acrobatic stunts holding and lifting each other. After that it was off to bed. Our room was rite behind the Fremont Casino sign on third avenue, and we were able to partially see the light show out of the window.

Got up in the morning and had breakfast in the Golden Gate Casino. This was the original and first casino on Fremont street (address, 1 Fremont Street.) originally called the Nevado Hotel in 1905, renamed the Segav Sal (Las Vegas backwards, and then renamed the Golden Gate. The inventors of the cheap casino buffets/food with their shrimp cocktails specials. After checking out we headed of to Fitness Ridge. One last lunch at one of the local Mexican restaurants.

Checked in at Fitness Ridge, and I am very impressed with this new facility. Really beautiful buildings, decor, and surroundings. Nice rooms. Unpacked everything, processed in (official measurements... Fat and Out of Shape.) ;-)
For dinner we had salad, a pasta/vegetable salad and some sort of chocolate desert for dinner. Following dinner was the orientation. There are about 35 people here this week. Only a year after opening the doors at this new facility, they are having to talk about expanding.

Well, the morning is going to be arriving early. The first class starts at 6AM so we need to get up at 5:30AM. Yeach.
